Mother's Day: Make it personal

Posted on by Elizabeth Shaw

Mother's Day is fast approaching. We all have mums or other lovely, nurturing mother figures in our lives. They are the friends, aunts and grandmothers who listen and offer wise words when we need them the most. The ones who put up with our bad moods and comfort us through every bad break-up. When it comes to celebrating Mother's Day, it really is the thought that counts. Which is why I'm going to treat my mum, and all those people who have loved and cared for me like a mum, to something really personal and special this year.

Our simply stunning Celebration Cake
A traditional treat that any mother would love

Three ways to add the personal touch

1. Invite her over for afternoon tea

Crustless cucumber sandwiches; warm scones smothered in clotted cream; a pot of steaming-hot Earl Grey; dainty china cups with saucers; and perhaps even a cheeky glass of fizz. It's a traditional treat that any mother would love. For a dramatic centrepiece that's sure to impress, bake our Celebration Cake - it's simply stunning. Or if you have young children who are desperate to 'help', our scrummy Chocolate Crisp Hedgehog Cake will raise a smile.

2. Share happy memories

Show her how much you care by creating a photo album packed full of special moments and the people and places she loves. Or frame a favourite family photo. If she has any old cine-films stashed in her attic, you could even get it converted into a DVD for a uniquely personal family film night.

3. Spend some quality time

When was the last time you had a day or evening out, just the two of you? Whether it's a trip to the theatre, a chilly country walk that ends with a cosy pub lunch, or a day dressed up at the races, it's the time that you spend together that mums cherish.
