Tips for a love-ly Valentine's Day

Posted on by Elizabeth Shaw

I know not everyone agrees, but I love Valentine's Day. Sitting nicely between Christmas and Easter, it offers the perfect opportunity to shake off the gloom of January, ditch the New Year's resolutions and tell that special someone how much you adore them.

So here are three ways to make Valentine's Day perfect.

The perfect day

When it comes to romance, thoughtful little gestures mean so much more than expensive gifts or restaurants. Lavish some love on his favourite home-cooked meal, followed by our Crispy Cupid Hearts for dessert; leave the washing-up until the morning and snuggle up together on the sofa to watch your favourite romantic movie (or his favourite action movie if you're feeling really generous!)

The perfect card

Really think about the card you buy, so it's truly personal. If you are feeling creative, make your own using your favourite 'loved-up' photographs from romantic trips. With Valentine's cards, the really important thing is the message inside. Write something honest from the heart. If you struggle to find the words, the right poem can help. Just don't start with 'Roses are red'...

The perfect gift

Nothing says 'I love you' like chocolate. A proven aphrodisiac, it's the perfect Valentine's gift. But have you ever wondered why it's so devastatingly attractive? Did you know there are scientific reasons behind chocolate's allure? Chocolate contains a chemical called phenylethylamine, which is released naturally in the body when you fall in love - so it replicates the same feelings. In fact, the Aztecs were so worried about its ability to make you feel amorous that women were banned from eating it! Try our Sharing range - the fabulous flavours will make you go weak at the knees....
